Default Question about my computer running gw.

Well i'm no technician but I own a nice labtop that isn't new but not really old. It's a Dell Latitude D600 and whenever it runs nightfall, it plays kinda laggy for 5 mins but then it hits a HUGE lag spike where everything moves in super slow motion and it's impossible to play for 5-7 minutes. After that it plays little laggy but still good and then it repeats the lag spike cycle. I have a feeling that my computer NOT meeting all of nightfall reqs has a link to it but I just wanted to know if anyone could help me with this and how to delete the lag from it. Thank you and much appriceiated.

There are a few things to check:

1. Are you playing via a wireless internet connection on this laptop? If so, something could be periodically interfering w/ the wireless signal and causing these periodic lag spikes.

2. Do you know what kind of video card this laptop has? Is it an nvidia or ati/radeon card, and does it share memory w/ your system ram, or does it have its own memory?

3. How much total system ram does your laptop have? Are there any other programs running in the background. It could be that there is some sort of real-time virus scanner and it could be doing periodic checks, which could cause the lag.

4. Have you ever done an -image for GW on this laptop? If your laptop only has a 5400rpm or slower hard drive, it could be that the game is trying to download additional files, which in turn causes lag.

5. Lastly, and this is just a good idea in general; do a windows update and check for any updates to the video card driver for this laptop.

Hope that helps.

ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 AGP 4x, 32MB. That is the video card that you laptop has if i did my research correctly and it is also probably the biggest part of your problem. The minimum requirements are higher for nightfall and eye of the north than for the previous chapters. Also how much RAM does your computer have? Mine used to have 512MB and a video card more than capable of handling GW, but with the firewall, av etc 512MB RAM just wasn't enough. Upgraded to 1.5GB and since then i don't have lagg anymore.

Still, the main problem is your video card so i wouldn't bother adding more RAM if you are also lacking in that area.

All I can suggest would be to turn down the graphics settings and start from there. Updating the video card driver and letting it do a full -image overnight would also be good ideas. If you are wireless, try w/ an ethernet cable connected instead...

Work yes.
Work great, not really with low video settings you should get playable fps but you probably won't be able to play with all the bells and whistles turned on. Same thing for factions, it should run decently.
